Firefighters tackling a scrub fire in the Waikite Valley last night were hampered by difficult access to the terrain.
Fire communications shift manager Steve Smith said crews from across Rotorua and rural fire called up air support to help put the fire on Dods Rd out. A monsoon bucket was used to dump water on the pockets of fire.
Mr Smith said there were "spot fires" across a two hectare area of grass and scrub.
It started around 4.10pm yesterday and was not being treated as suspicious. crews stayed at the site until 10.30pm making sure no hot spots flared up.
