Lake Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade Sponsors
The Fraser Type 34 Fire Appliance
In 2012 the Lake Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade undertook a fundraising expedition to acquire a new Fire Appliance. The Fire Brigade was able to contribute $20,000.00 towards the project. In April, Kierin Oppatt volunteered to become the funding coordinator and sent out several applications to community trusts. In the following seven months the Fire Brigade received the following amounts:

On the 20th August, we purchased an Isuzu FTS 800 Crew Cab Truck from Shorland Holden Rotorua. The truck was then transported to Fraser Fire and Rescue in Wellington to be retrofitted into a Fraser Type 34 Heavy Pumper, a truck used in South Australian rural/urban communities to respond to emergency incidents. It was on the 13th September that we placed our deposit on construction and the manufacturing of the appliance began. Then on the 5th April 2013 the Type 34 Fire Appliance was transported to Rotorua to be registered, warranted, serviced and the Lake Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade would receive the appliance on the 7th. Over the next four weeks radio communication would be transferred and installed; minor adjustments were made to the fire station to store the truck; equipment was transferred from our previous Fire Appliance and additional equipment was received; and it was at 12.30 pm on the 26th April that the new Lake 6571 became operational.
The Lake Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade would sincerely like to thank all of those involved, who helped us obtain this Fire Appliance. It will undoubtedly be a great resource to the Lake Ōkāreka Community and Rotorua District for many years to come.
