A motorist had to climb out of the boot after his car landed on its side after sliding on an icy road.
The single-car crash happened about 8.15am yesterday on Tarawera Rd.
Last week, a light truck lost control on the road and crashed, also landing on its side.
Constable Mike Burr, of the Rotorua police, said the motorist had "lost control on the ice", which resulted in the crash.
The driver was taken to Rotorua hospital but only suffered minor injuries.
He said motorists needed to take care on the roads and watch out for icy conditions.
Shortly after the first incident, police were called to a second crash involving three cars on Te Ngae Rd, near Owhata Rd.
He said one vehicle had stopped suddenly causing two more cars to hit each other in the pile-up. Ice was not thought to be a contributing factor. No one was seriously hurt.
Both crashes blocked one lane of the respective roads.
A MetService forecaster said the frost temperature in Rotorua was -2.5C yesterday morning, resulting in icy roads.
Police warned motorists last week to drive to the conditions as low temperatures hit and several crashes occurred on the city's roads.
According to the MetService, fine days and frosty mornings are expected in Rotorua until Sunday when showers are forecast.
Temperatures are expected to reach about 13C, with lows of 4C.
