Lake Ōkāreka Newsletter - December 1996

Well, it’s almost Christmas once again. If you’re a long-time resident of Lake Okareka you will probably remember the Carol singers in the hay cart. We thought that it was time that this tradition was revived so this year the Fire Brigade is organising that very thing. At the moment the day and time has not been finalised but we will advertise that through the store as soon as possible. Everybody is welcome to join in — come along and sing Christmas carols with us from atop the Fire Engine — all around the village — and just for the fun of doing it. If you can play a musical instrument, so much the better — bring it along — unless it’s a grand piano!!

I’m pleased to report that we have filled the 2 vacancies I mentioned in the last newsletter. A big welcome to Les Edwards and Peter Burrell. So — now you can rest assured if the curiously dressed stranger climbing down your chimney on 24 December bursts into flames, we will be fully manned and ready to respond!

In the meantime have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year and remember to tune up your singing voice for the benefit of the community.
