Looks like we’ve had summer for this year and thankfully without any scrub fires in our area. However, we have been out to a number of motor vehicle accidents, including a “head on” at Tarawera Road caused by an overseas visitor driving along the wrong side of the road. Scary thought! So — I guess it only goes to prove the old saying “Always expect the unexpected, especially when you least expect it”.
Now, we have worked out what is missing in a volunteer fireman’s life of wine, women and song. We can all sing (for better or worse), we’ve got a beer fridge (and a wine case), but — you’ve got it — no women. Girls, this is your chance to fix our problem. A few years back, when we were all in the first flush of youth, we had two all-girl crews. In fact, they were the best crews in the lakes area (female crews, I must say!) and we have got the trophies to prove it.
Seriously though, we would really like some of the girls in the area to join up with the fire force. You must be over 17 years of age and really that’s all. Tarawera and Rotoiti have combined crews which work really well, especially at those times when husbands are at work. Give me a call on 362 8105 or call in at the fire station on Wednesday nights at 7.30 p.m.
