Well, it’s been another quiet period for us – which has got to be a good thing for the community.
The weather around the November 5th period meant there was a slim chance of any fires through the Guys Fawkes period, and of course, that weather still continues. We have taken the opportunity to have both of our fire trucks serviced and checked over in readiness for the coming summer fire season.
Remember that a restricted fire season operates in Okareka all year round. That means that you must get a fire permit from the Department of Conservation, The Rotorua District Council or the New Zealand Fire Service before lighting any outside fire, (other than in a drum, incinerator or enclosed barbecue) at any time of the year. There are strict penalties for not complying with these regulations, and if your non-permitted fire results in a call out for the Fire Service, you could be liable for all associated costs, and they do not come cheap!!
As always at this time of year, I would like to remind you that there will be increased tourists and drivers who are not familiar with our roads in the area over the next few months, so please be extra careful out there.
Finally, a big thank you to Salisbury Signs Ltd for the new sign outside the Fire Station, and to Peter Harding for putting it in place. Also, thank you to the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust for a donation of $3700 towards the cost of the training room, which we are building beside the Fire Station.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
